Following this discovery, further investigations also put us in contact with the Australian International Pedal Prix racers. More recently still (March 2000) we were contacted from Hong Kong where they also run an annual 24-hour race for pedal cars (where a team from England competed some years ago). We are informed from this same source of yet another 24 hour race held in Nairobi, which is believed still to be running although with no apparent web presence we are, as yet, unable to confirm this. Summer 2000 saw the arrival of an email from the USA, where a keen pedal car builder is working on starting a race or series. Subsequently, via Karbyk, we were informed of a French federation of pedal car racing as well. All these formulas are different from each other and from the BPCC rules in varying degrees, but all also share some similarities to our chosen sport. The British, Italian, Hong Kong and Kenyan formulas are strongly connected, being for four-wheeled pedal driven vehicles, although each has slightly differing car regulations and racing rules. HKHPVA, the Hong Kong organisation, has suggested an international body to assist with communication between different series and suggested an international kart specification, to allow cars to compete globally. After a couple of draughts, we have a specification which both the HKHPVA and BPCC have adopted as their technical regulations. It is a fairly open specification, such as we already had for the BPCC, as no-one wants to exclude any existing active teams or stifle innovation. In this respect any international body is likely to be much more IHPVA than UCI! As a new venture, the North Americans don't yet have a set of rules to the best of our knowledge, however it's unlikely that they'll be outlandishly different when they do - the international kart spec is available to all! This is, without doubt, an exciting time for the sport as a whole and would probably not have come about (at least nothing like as quickly) without the existence of this website (for which I will take a big, egotistical, slap on the back, thanks - Web Ed) The Australian formula permits fewer wheels, and most of the fastest cars use only three, making them much closer to what we would simply refer to as an HPV. However, there are several similarities between the AIPP and the BPCC - primarily the fact that it is very definitely a team sport that races for 24 hours. Please read the further information about the French, Italian, Hong Kong, American and Australian formulas and check out the pictures (where available). Need bike type stuff?
