Pedal Cars on The Gadget Show!
Set your generic hard disk recorders...
31 March 2010
Channel 5 TV programme, The Gadget Show, recently challenged a group of Birmingham City University students to assemble a pedal car by hand in just an hour.
The programme makers challenged the University's School of Engineering, Design and Manufacturing Systems to build a pedal car for one of the presenting team to race against three existing BPCC cars at the nearby Birmingham Wheels kart track.
BAR team manager and car builder Neil Carter provided guidance to the nine-strong team of student car builders while presenters Suzi Perry, Jason Bradbury, Jon Bentley and Ortis Deley were on hand to make sure the group finished the job in time.
Once the build was completed, Jason Bradbury raced against three of the top pedal car racers in the country: Jes Featherstone, of reigning European Champions Apollo Racing, Rob Fulford of reigning British Champions BAR Racing and Alan Goodman of Goodmaniacs.
After putting the vehicle through its paces Jason said: ''Wow, what a ride and what a great team. The build quality, the design and the hands-on driving characteristics of the Gadget Show pedal car were bang on. And it was all down to the support and expertise of the gang from Birmingham City University!''
The Gadget Show's ''Surprise Challenge Special'' is to be aired on Five, on Monday 26 April at 8pm.
