All change
British Federation of Pedal Car Racing (BFPCR) Chairman Mike Leach, and Treasurer Bob Moffat, have both resigned from the committee after many years of dedicated service to the sport, both to make way for younger people to take the sport forward in the future. Mike will continue to look after the Scoutcar side of the sport, while Bob will still be more than happy to be asked to count laps at future races. Firstly, therefore, I'd like to take this opportunity to thank both of them for their years of excellent service - Thankyou, gentlemen.
At the same committee meeting, various rule changes were approved for the coming season, all of them aimed at improving safety, professionalism and enjoyment at BPCC races - please check the rules carefully before preparing for any race, because a small number of previously-legal cars will need some minor modifications before continuing. Some of the changes concern driver behaviour and driving discipline, and most penalties now start off with losing a lap for any infringements. It's all written down, both on this website (In the Info section, rules pages) and in Pedal Car News, so you have no excuse for "not knowing"!
Additionally, the BFPCR is having a new constitution written; when it is finalised it will appear on this website in an all-new "BFPCR Committee" section; that way everyone can see how the sport is governed and promoted in the UK, and who does what within the structure.
Hopefully this will answer a lot of questions that newcomers (and established teams!) might have, before they even ask them!
As for Mike and Bob's replacements, highly respected and massively experienced racer Ken Brown has taken over the chairmanship temporarily, and I have been offered the treasurer position, an offer which, after some deliberation, I have decided to accept.
Hopefully I will be able to help take the sport onto even better things in the future.
Antony Hawkins
